Attention parents for 5th grade Language Arts:

Students will have a Shurley Chapter 5 Test on Thursday, November 8th. Students have taken a home a review for this and should be studying at home. We will also begin reading “Number the Stars” on Tuesday, November 6th. Please make sure your child is bringing the book to school.

I have sent home a reading log to help students keep themselves accountable as we reach our goal for the 1st nine weeks. This reading log will also be counted as a grade as they turn them in each Friday. Parent signature is required in order for the grade to be given. Reading goal time for each week is 140 minutes- in order to reach that goal a total time of 35 minutes must be done from Monday-Thursday. Students will bring back the reading log page every Friday and turn that in to me. Students should have at least 10 points by November 2nd and have tested on at least one chapter book and one nonfiction book. AR reports will be sent home on Wednesday in the Wednesday Envelope. Please make sure the report is signed and turned in on Thursday.

AR reminders:
5 Nonfiction books
3 Chapter books/Novels
85% average or higher

Parents: Please make sure to be checking your child’s AR progress report online. I have also sent home a newsletter in the Wednesday envelope. Please make sure to read this over as it includes important information.

After school library has begun! Students can stay and read/AR test at the library until 4:00pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Attention parents for 6th grade World History:
World Fair is a few weeks away! Students will continue to work on props and skits this week. We will be doing an Egyptian theme this year and kids have chosen their roles and created a script to go along with that. I have sent home project requirements and a summary on what to expect these next two weeks. Please make sure to read over that form to get a better understanding of how World Fair works. I have also added the project requirements to the web page and have given them Friday, November 9th, to work on their memorization of their scripts/tri fold projects if needed. World Fair is on Friday, November 16th and below are the parent visiting times:

12:25pm-1:55pm Parent rotations (two opportunities to visit a different classroom)
12:25pm-12:55pm 1st rotation
1:10pm-1:40pm 2nd rotation

**Parents: I have also given them 3 days this week to memorize their lines. I am also giving them Monday-Wednesday of next week to rehearse and they will be tested on their memorization of their scripts on Thursday, November 15th. Please make sure students are studying these lines at home as it is the only thing World History classes are working on. Please make sure students have their accessories ready for World Fair.

Any questions, please do not hesitate to e-mail me!
Thank you!
